29.04.2026.

The new issue of the journal Contemporary Materials, XVII, No. 1 (2026) has been published and contains a total of twelve peer-reviewed papers by authors from various scientific institutions, which cover current topics.

EDITION OVERVIEW

By decision of the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Srpska no. 07.030-053-160-15/10. as of July 26, 2010, the Journal Contemporary Materials was entered in the Register of Public Media under serial number 599. The founder of the Journal is the Academy of Sciences and Arts of the Republic of Srpska. The chief editor and the responsible editor is academician Dragoljub Mirjanić.

The Journal is published every six months, in English, and covers four scientific areas: natural, technical, biotechnical and medical sciences. The program conception of the scientific journal Contemporary Materials is based on the multidisciplinary scientific presentation of contemporary materials, their application in science, technology and industry, especially in areas such as: research of new materials; nanostructured materials; modern technologies of production of modern materials; materials with modified properties; eco and non-eco materials; biomaterials and technologies; application of modern materials in technology, in mechanical, textile and electrical industry, agriculture, construction, medicine, dentistry, pharmacy...; materials for nutrition and food storage; packing materials (packaging); recycled materials and the problem of waste; standardization and characterization of materials; systematization of quality and control of usability of materials; improvement of life through the use of modern materials; other issues related to modern materials.

This issue of the journal places a strong focus on the development of modern nanomaterials. MXene and graphene (especially laser-induced graphene) are being investigated in combination with polymers for the production of flexible electronics. The key goal is to create wearable sensors that can detect finger movements, serve for digital writing or monitor health parameters, while simultaneously examining their thermal and mechanical properties.
The topics of the papers are also from the field of ecological engineering and environmental protection and include practical solutions to current ecological problems for wastewater treatment and the use of industrial waste (such as red mud) for the removal of pollutants. The implementation of EU directives concerning the safety of drinking water is analyzed, and studies on the efficiency of flue gas desulfurization systems in large energy systems such as thermal power plants are also included.
The topic of this issue also covers modern aspects of dental medicine, including regenerative dentistry and histological studies of materials for preserving dental pulp, aesthetic dentistry through the study of external factors (diet and hygiene) on the success of therapeutic procedures, such as teeth whitening.
Also, the research topics of the papers are from the field of fundamental and applied chemistry, which analyzes organic synthesis and the production of new metal complexes in complex chemical processes, and structural analysis of molecules, chromatography and the use of analytical methods to assess the toxicity and biological activity of substances, and the physical chemistry of surfaces, which studies the surface charge (zeta potential) of minerals, which is of crucial importance for mining and raw material processing.
The journal also includes technical and technological analyses in engineering and wood processing in the wood industry, focusing on the optimization of production processes, the use of raw materials and the efficiency of modern wood processing plants.

This issue of the journal is highly multidisciplinary and connects technical and technological sciences, chemistry, ecology and medicine, with a clear orientation towards innovations in industry and laboratory research.
